Raking light proves useful during the study for its ability to reveal deformations or blisters of the paint layer. It is also used for making gesso and structural reintegration of missing parts of the paint layer. By skimming over the work’s surface, this tangential light highlights the original structure of the painter’s composition and helps us to recreate the missing structures in the same manner.
