Facing is a more traditional stretching technique that has been used for several centuries. A paper that has been relaxed with humidity is stuck to the front of the work and to a table, forming an intermediate zone that does not touch anything. This zone will retract as it dries and stretch the work as the work’s small deformations disappear. Once the facing is dry, it is turned over for adhesive coverage and refixing. When all operations have been completed, the ensemble is turned and defacing can begin. By the end of the process, the work is perfectly refixed without deformations of its support.
